Massive Retaliation:
Eisenhower's method of dealing with communist countries. Tries to get rid of communism altogether, and if necessary, will use nuclear weapons.

Rollback:
A more liberal method of dealing with communism. Rollback does not demand the defeat of communism, but only calls for the prevention of further spread.

So apparently, during the Cold Wars, USA tried many methods to get countries to stay capitalist--US gave a lot of financial aid to western Europe, started Peace Corps to get third-world countries to like US better than the USSR, and etc. Presidents went around Europe trying to assure countries that US will protect them and such. Kennedy went to west Berlin during the Berlin blockade to let the Berlin people know that USA was behind them, and won't let the USSR take them over.

And just a few months ago, Russia and US decided to restore their relationship to friendlier times. So US provided "reset buttons," but the Russian for "reset" was misprinted and it read "overload." Makes me wonder, aren't there any Americans that can speak/read Russian in the government?
